Huxley's Future
I think that some of Huxley's predictions aren't that absurd. Even though women don't go around with Malthusian Belts attached to themselves, I fee like a lot of women are on birth control so the birth rate has slowed tremendously compared to previous years and compared to other developing countries. Also, though no one works in an assembly line all the time, the mundane working habits that a lot of people have are prevalent. I don't believe that his system of the family unit is at the extreme of extinction, but I do believe that the family unit is broken. The divorce rates have sky rocketed and families are more dysfunctional than they have been before. I also think that to some degree people don't want a family. I know it's a part of growing up now for kids to have a bitch session with their parents, but I don't think it used to be like that. More of my friends now don't want to be a part of their families, so the concept of the extinction of families is too far fetched in my opinion. I do think that the idea of flying cars aand helicopters and being able to travel in 40 seconds is a little absurd. I'm not saying that it can't be done, but I do think it will take a while. Also I don't think religion will ever be extinct. Knowing religion and some of its history I think that so many people have deep rooted religious ties that they wouldn't be willing to give up.
